As we usher in the new year, it’s always an exciting and hopeful time, as we let go of the mistakes we made the year before and move forward with renewed energy and vitality. While it’s great to make plans and goals at the beginning of the year related to your physical well being, such as quitting smoking and getting more exercise, it’s also really important to renew your mind as well. Sometimes we get so stuck in our old thought patterns and restrictive thinking that it can actually hold us back and prevent us from seeing the possibilities as well as our own true potential. So this year, consider getting rid of the negative self talk and play a new record.
Take a good look in the mirror, what do you see? Sometimes we’re so used to being critical at our image in the mirror that we don’t even realize it. When you look in the mirror, does your attention immediately go to the are where there are flaws? Do you immediately spot areas of your body that you’re not pleased with or perhaps that one zit that makes you not want to leave the house? Instead, practice standing in front of your mirror at least 3 times a week and tell yourself, “I accept the way I look, I love my body” and “I am pretty, beautiful, unique” etc. While we may never be perfect and it’s totally okay to want to improve your looks, that doesn’t mean you can’t appreciate the way you are now on the way to where you want to be. Giving yourself that little extra love regularly will boost your energy and self esteem to achieve your beauty and health goals.
By changing the way you speak to yourself in your head, you’ll change the way you see yourself. Sooner or later it’ll come more naturally until one day you find yourself looking in the mirror and smiling back at yourself, pleased with who you see and honoring the beautiful and brilliant person you are.
